The Good: Marquette Basketball
I love a team that will take a game on a weeks notice. I especially love going to Chapel Hill and coming out of the Dean Dome with a double digit victory. This Golden Eagle team was up to challenge as they beat UNC 83-70 after this game got scheduled a week prior. Marquette was lights out from the 3 point line and built up an 18 point lead early. UNC kept cutting the lead to around 8-10, but Marquette would knock down 2 shots to bring the lead back to 12. UNC got down early and could not climb out of the hole. We can discuss how this affects UNC’s tournament resume, but good on the Golden Eagles for taking it to the Tarheels and getting a big time program win.
The Bad: Baylor Basketball
Nobody panic!!!! No seriously calm down. Do Baylor deserve this? Probably not, but I really wanted to see them and Gonzaga go undefeated and meet in the National Championship game in Indianapolis. Yes the Baylor Bears ate their first loss of the year to Kansas on Saturday 71-58. Kansas was better from the field and worlds better from the free throw line. Baylor looked like the team that played against Iowa State on Thursday and came up against better competition. The debate has now moved from who is the number 2 team in the country, with Gonzaga running away with the WCC. We will see if Baylor can bounce back and make a nice push toward the tournament because this team is too good not to make a big run.
The Ugly: Tiger Woods
Well unless you have been living under a rock, the news of the Tiger Woods accident should come as no surprise. Taking the vehicle off road and rolling it has got to be one of the more terrifying experiences that anyone can go through. From reports, major surgery was needed on his legs and concerns arose about possible amputation. This news shook the sports world. Tiger has made statements through his foundation making encouraging notes about his progress. With the way 2020 started, the sports world did not need another legend going before their time. Prayers up Tiger.
The Good: Kylian Mbappe
Its not often that a game featuring Leonel Messi has anyone else be the star is an anomaly, but Kylian Mbappe is one of the few exceptions. In the Champions League round of 16 matchup, Mbappe pulled off an absolute master class. The PSG talesman scored a hat trick in a 4-1 demolition at the Camp Nou. PSG was not at full strength with Neymar sidelined, but that did not stop this club from taking it to Barca. Messi, who did score a goal from the penalty spot, could not help his team find any kind of rhythm going forward. Mbappe is already a player in high demand with teams like Real Madrid, Man City, and Man United, and this world-class player will dominate wherever his career takes him.
The Bad: Arik Gilbert
I was not sure whether to put this story in the bad or the ugly category, but this story might see both sides before it is all over. Arik Gilbert, the former tight end for the LSU tigers, had originally committed to playing football at Florida by way of the transfer portal. Now, he is back in the transfer portal and has announced he will not announce until he is on campus. This is a guy who is the highest rated TE recruit in 24/7 history, but just cannot seem to put his finger on exactly where he wants to play. I mean he was off to a great start in Baton Rouge, but it was reported that he was homesick. Then he announces Florida, which is not any closer to Atlanta. Something abut this story almost feels like Jalen Johnson situation where both sides cannot find the perfect fit. This young man has serious talent, but I hope he can get the mental side of being an elite athlete all together.
The Ugly: Qumain Black
If you don’t know anything about this story then I am happy for you. According to reports out of Denison Texas, Qumain Black is accused as part of a human trafficking sting. Reports claim that he would take between 200 and 500 dollars per transaction along with potential physical assault for non compliance. This is a disgusting story that does not need anymore light to it. If you would like to read the rest, just Google this mans name. I know I will never be again.
The Final Good: Devin Booker and Domantas Sabonis
The final good brings us to the NBA where two guys that should have been original selections will get the opportunity to compete in the All Star game, Devin Booker and Domantas Sabonis. Booker is averaging nearly 25 points a game leading the Suns. and Sabonis would have been the only person to average 20 ppg 10 rpg and 5 apg and not make the All- Star game. There are plenty of changes that are going to occur during this All Star weekend, but these two guys have earned there way onto that stage. Congrats Devin and Domantas.
